Risuonare con l'Universo — Resonating with the Universe
Introduction
When one tuning fork is struck, another tuning fork some distance away begins to vibrate of its own accord. Even without physical contact, objects with the same frequency resonate with one another. This is known as ‘resonance’.
Our bodies are no different. When we hear a strained voice, our shoulders tense up; when we are near a calm person, our breathing deepens. Even before our minds can comprehend it, our bodies are always resonating with the world around us.
In an age where AI provides the answers, perhaps what we need to reclaim is not faster thinking, but a body capable of ‘resonating’ once more. This is a two-hour session in which we set aside intellectual thought for a moment to experience resonance through our breath and voice.
Where Mantras Meet Sacred Chants
Italian psychotherapist Cristina Ombra has spent over 30 years integrating Western clinical psychology with Eastern meditation practices and awareness of bodily sensations. Her practice and the Zen-inspired bodily awareness of Japan converge at the single point of ‘resonance’. The medium for this is the voice.
From Japan comes the mantra of Kūkōzō Bosatsu. ‘Kūkōzō’ means ‘a treasure as boundless as the void (the universe)’. It is said that when Kūkai chanted this mantra continuously in a cave at Cape Muroto, the Morning Star flew into his mouth.
From Italy comes Gregorian chant—an unaccompanied, monophonic prayer that has been sung in medieval monasteries for over a thousand years.
Esoteric Buddhist mantras and monastic chant. Although these are entirely different traditions, both have used the voice not ‘to understand meaning’ but ‘to create resonance’. What happens when these two are sounded together in the same space? This is a time for all participants to discover for themselves.
Programme for the Day (Provisional)
This is not a seminar where you simply sit and listen. Whilst connected online, we will move our bodies from our respective locations.
Mindful Breathing / Grounding — From the mind to the body. We’ll bring our awareness down to the soles of our feet and the tanden
Somatic Exercises — We’ll release tension and prepare our bodies to let the voice flow freely
[Japan] Mantra Practice of Kūkōzō Bosatsu — Led by Koji Miki. The aim is not to recite the mantra perfectly. Simply maintain your attention on where in your chest or abdomen you feel the vibration.
[Italy] Gregorian Chant Voice Work — Facilitated by Cristina Ombra. No singing experience is necessary.
The Resonance of Two Sounds — A central session where voices from East and West are layered together in the same space

Regarding Languages
The workshop will be conducted in three languages: Japanese, English and Italian. The session will be conducted in English as the common language, with AI-powered automatic translation ensuring participants can follow in their native tongues. This is an attempt to minimise the common weakness of international workshops, where the flow of the experience is interrupted whilst waiting for an interpreter. The AI conveys the words, whilst participants focus on their bodies and voices. This format itself is also an experiment.
Please note that mantras and chants will not be translated. This is because they are sounds meant to be resonated, not words meant to be understood.
For those who…
Feel their minds are constantly busy whilst their bodily sensations feel distant. Those who wish to cultivate human sensitivity and intuition in the age of AI. Those interested in the practice of mantras, chanting and the voice, as well as mindfulness. Those interested in an experimental space connecting Japan and Italy. No prior experience is required whatsoever.
