Anbling™ Kita Kamakura Retreat

A 3-hour program to reconnect with your true self through walking Zen

Has walking ever changed your life? Have you ever experienced such a moment?

Since 2023, after the pandemic subsided, I have witnessed a recurring moment of transformation while taking friends and researchers visiting from overseas on walks through Zen temples.

Slowly walking along the quiet paths around North Kamakura, followed by conversations after zazen—there, deep bonds blossomed beyond positions and nationalities, giving rise to new businesses and collaborations.

We named this mysterious effect the “Anbling Effect” and developed it into a workshop program. Why not experience “walking Zen” yourself in North Kamakura, where history and the scent of Zen linger?

Have you ever had an experience where walking changed your life?

After the pandemic eased, a strange change came over me. I began guiding visitors from overseas to Zen temples in North Kamakura three or four times a month. At first, it was simply a desire to “introduce the beautiful Japanese Zen culture.”

But as I guided more people, I noticed something astonishing.

As we walked slowly along the quiet paths around North Kamakura, talking, people's expressions visibly changed.

We'd experience zazen meditation along the way, then spend a gentle time afterward sitting and talking. After spending time like this, somehow, everyone participating became incredibly close.

This was more than just a sightseeing tour.

In fact, with several of the foreigners I walked with, we later started projects together or new businesses emerged. Encounters and connections, as if by magic, kept happening one after another.

“What on earth is happening here?”

The answer lay in the special atmosphere of Kitakamakura's Zen temples and natural surroundings. Walking slowly over stone pavements etched with over 700 years of history, passing through bamboo groves and flowers blooming with the seasons. The conversations shared within this setting somehow naturally held the power to open the doors of the heart.

Amazingly, even with my clumsy English, we could communicate incredibly well and become close. Beyond the language barrier, hearts connected.

Stepping away from the daily clamor, onto quiet paths where only footsteps echo. There, strangely, deep thoughts and dreams we wouldn't normally share just flowed out naturally. In sync with the rhythm of walking, hearts opened effortlessly.

I want to share this experience with more people. And I want to create this new experience of “connecting while walking” together with you.

We named this mysterious effect the “Anbling Effect.” This event is the workshop we created to embody that effect.

Born from this vision is “Anbling™.”

Join us for a special experience this weekend, starting at 9 AM for about 3 hours. Set in the historic, Zen-infused atmosphere of North Kamakura, why not create this unique experience together?

Limited to just 5 participants. Walk with me as I share how Zen saved me during my darkest times. It's a time to quietly reconnect with yourself and your companions. (Learn more about my personal transformation here.)

This single step might just be the beginning of an encounter that changes your life.

【What is Anbling™?】

“Anbling™” is a tangible way for more people to experience the “access to one's inner essence” that I've explored through zenschool and Zen2.0.

It combines the English words “Amble” (to walk slowly), ‘Ing’ (the state of being present here and now), and “Inner being” (one's inner essence).

Placing yourself in a rich natural environment like North Kamakura or a pure space, calming your thoughts, and walking slowly (Amble) while sharpening your five senses. The bodily sensations and the delicate awareness of yourself “here and now” (Ing). Then, engage in reflective talk—a non-judgmental, listening-based introspective dialogue. Through this process, you'll be liberated from overthinking, and in that moment of sudden emptiness, connect with your inner being and authentic insight."

This is precisely the experience Anbling™ aims to provide. We prioritize “feeling” through your own body and mind, rather than merely acquiring knowledge.
