Day 2 9:45-15:30

Turning Prayer — Finding the Axis, Resonating with the World

Day1, Day2 担当: Cristina Ombra(クリスティーナ・オンブラ)

The Experience

This is not a workshop to attend intellectually.

It is an invitation to experience.

Through breath, movement, mindfulness, reflection, and embodied practices, participants will be invited to:

• Slow down and reconnect with themselves

 • Regulate stress and nervous system activation

 • Develop greater body awareness

 • Cultivate presence and emotional balance

 • Explore new ways of living with authenticity and meaning

 • Experience deeper human connection beyond digital distraction

Day 1

Mindful Ikigai in the AI Era Listening to the Wisdom of the Body

The first day focuses on awareness, grounding, and listening.

The day begins with a Hatha Yoga practice that creates space within the body and breathes life into it, opening the heart and cultivating a sense of presence. Through mindful movement and breath, participants are invited to settle into the body, deepen their awareness, and arrive more fully in the present moment, while preparing to receive the afternoon's practices with lightness and presence.

Building on this embodied foundation, the afternoon session deepens the exploration through mindfulness practices, embodied awareness exercises, guided self-reflection, and experiential activities. Together, we will explore how presence, breath, sensation, and mindful attention can support emotional balance, resilience, and meaningful living in a rapidly changing world.

Participants will also be invited to reflect on the central question of Mindful Ikigai:

How can we remain deeply connected to ourselves and what truly matters in an age of increasing complexity and technological change?

Throughout the day, participants are encouraged to move beyond concepts and intellectual understanding, entering into direct experience and cultivating a deeper relationship with themselves, their bodies, and their own sense of meaning and purpose.

Practices include:

• Mindfulness meditation

 • Morning yoga practice — opening the body and heart

 • Breath awareness

 • Nervous system regulation

 • Somatic awareness practices

 • Reflection on Ikigai and meaningful living

 • Group sharing and dialogue

Day 2

Turning Prayer — Finding the Axis, Resonating with the World

Turning Prayer — Finding the Axis, Resonating with the World

Day 2 is a day dedicated to expressing inner experiences through rotation (spinning), building on the “listening, awareness, and grounding” cultivated on Day 1.

Here, you will encounter “Meditative Dance”—a practice that uses beautiful dance forms to expand “prayer” and “gratitude,” the very roots of dance. At the heart of this session is the simple act of “spinning.” Spinning is one of the most fundamental forms of dance, one that has long been an integral part of prayer traditions around the world.

Following Day 1, during which we listened closely to our inner voices through meditation and introspection and reexamined our “purpose in life,” Day 2 takes us one step further. This is a day dedicated to expressing through movement what we have sensed within ourselves.

To keep spinning, you need a single, unwavering axis. The sensations in the tanden (lower abdomen) and the soles of the feet—which we focused on during Day 1—become the “center” of this spinning. While the outer body continues to move, stillness arises within—stillness within movement, movement within stillness. In an era of dizzying acceleration and constant stimulation, we will reclaim our “unwavering center” within ourselves.

Those who feel uneasy about spinning are welcome to simply watch; you can join in whenever you feel ready. We’ll experience the sensation of “What does my body and life desire right now?” not through the mind (thoughts), but through inner awareness.

In Japan, there is a term called “kotodama” (the spirit of words). Just as a soul dwells within words, a soul also dwells within the form of dance—this is “katadama” (the soul of form). The form of spinning itself holds a prayer, and by spinning, participants naturally let go of intellectual thought and are guided to simply be “here and now.” Even those with no dance experience can start with slow spins and progress at their own pace.

Rather than seeking results or improvement, participants surrender themselves to the circular movement born of prayer. Resonating within the sacred space of Kōmyō-ji Temple, participants discover their center and experience, through their bodies, the sensation of becoming one with the world and resonating with it.

Venue

Kōmyō-ji Temple (Tenshōzan Rengein Kōmyō-ji)

6-17-19 Zaimokuza, Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture 248-0013, Japan

Set near the shore of Zaimokuza in Kamakura, overlooking Yuigahama Beach, Kōmyō-ji is an ancient temple revered as a head temple of the Jōdo (Pure Land) school of Buddhism. Since its founding in the Kamakura period, it has been cherished as a place of prayer and contemplation, quietly holding nearly eight centuries of history.

Its main gate—among the largest in Kamakura—marks a threshold: passing beneath it, we begin to leave the noise of daily life behind. The spacious main hall, the gardens that mirror the turning of the seasons, and the sea breeze carrying the scent of salt all create an unhurried sense of time. The very atmosphere of the grounds becomes a support for pausing, settling the breath, and returning to oneself.

A place where temple, sea, and mountains meet—where nature and history live and breathe—Kōmyō-ji is one of the focal points that embodies the vision of "Mindful City Kamakura." Resonating within this space of prayer, we invite you to spend a day here, listening to the wisdom of the body.

Access

From the East Exit of JR Kamakura Station, take the Keikyū bus bound for Kotsubo / Zushi-Hayama and alight at "Kōmyō-ji" (the temple is right at the stop). Alternatively, about a 25-minute walk from Kamakura Station East Exit.

Our Vision

This retreat marks the first step in an ongoing international collaboration between Japan and Italy, dedicated to mindfulness, body awareness, meditative practice and human wellbeing.

We deeply resonate with the philosophy of ‘Mindful City Kamakura’ and are undertaking this project in alignment with that spirit. We have chosen to share this experience in Kamakura, resonating with the vision that this entire city—with its temples, the sea, the mountains, and a living blend of nature and history—can become a place that supports people in living mindfully. The location of Komyo-ji Temple is also a focal point that embodies this aspiration.

Our intention is to create opportunities for meaningful encounters, personal growth and genuine human connection in an increasingly complex, technology-driven world.

Is This Retreat for You?

This retreat may be meaningful if you:

• Feel overwhelmed by the pace of modern life

 • Wish to reconnect with your body and emotions

 • Are interested in mindfulness and contemplative practice

 • Seek greater balance, resilience, and self-awareness

 • Are curious about Ikigai and meaningful living

 • Value personal growth through direct experience

*No previous experience is required.

A Message to Participants

The spirit of Mindful Ikigai is not about performance or self-improvement.

It is about learning to pause.

To listen.

To breathe.

To reconnect with the wisdom already present within you.

In an age of increasing technological intelligence, perhaps our most important human capacity remains the ability to be fully present.

Voices from Participants

‘The exercise connecting the tanden and the chest was powerful; I could feel my mind and body connecting.’ — Mara (Italy)

“Ironing before an online meeting has become an important meditative practice for me.” — Barbara (Italy)

“I’ve started repeating three words to myself in my mind before picking up my mobile.” — Steve (USA)

This session is a two-day opportunity to rediscover, through your body, the small joys hidden within your daily life.

About the Lecturer

Day1+Day2 : Cristina Ombra

Cristina Ombra is a psychologist, psychotherapist, mindfulness teacher, and specialist in body-oriented approaches to human flourishing. She is the Academic Director of Zen and Body Mind School.

Cristina has been engaged in meditation and contemplative practice since the age of sixteen. For more than thirty years, she has explored the meeting point between Western psychology, Eastern contemplative traditions, and the wisdom of the living body.

After graduating in Clinical Psychology from the University of Turin, she dedicated her professional life to understanding how human beings can cultivate presence, resilience, self-awareness, and meaningful living. Her work integrates clinical psychology, mindfulness, somatic and body-oriented approaches, trauma-informed practices, Bioenergetic Analysis, T.R.E.® and Brain Gym®, creating a unique bridge between scientific knowledge and embodied experience. At the heart of her work lies a simple yet profound question:

How can human beings remain deeply connected to themselves in times of increasing complexity, uncertainty, and rapid change?

Cristina believes that the body is not merely something we have, but a source of intelligence, wisdom, creativity, and transformation. Through individual sessions, workshops, international trainings, and community-based projects, she supports people in reconnecting with themselves, their bodies, and what truly matters.

In an era increasingly shaped by Artificial Intelligence, her work focuses on nurturing the uniquely human capacities that technology cannot replace: presence, self-awareness, compassion, authentic relationship, discernment, and the ability to create meaning.

Mindful Ikigai in the AI Era is a natural expression of this lifelong exploration, bringing together psychology, mindfulness, embodied awareness, and contemplative practice in service of a more conscious and deeply human future.
